Welcome to England Design!

Cynthia England's award-winning quilt, Piece and QuietEngland Design is the web home of Cynthia England, an internationally known quilting instructor and quilt pattern designer. Cynthia is most well-known for her Picture Pieced quilts. Cynthia's most recognized quilt, Piece and Quiet, was chosen as one of the "The Twentieth Century's Best American Quilts" in 2000.In addition to this award, Cynthia won Best of Show at the International Quilt Festival in Houston for Piece and Quiet in 1993 and for Open Season in 2000.

New Picture-Piecing Patterns Debut
England Design introduced 3 new picture piecing patterns at International Quilt Market and Festival in late October. These patterns are available online now on our Critter Series page.

Picture Piecing Patterns and Books
Through England Design, Cynthia has published over 50 patterns and two books. You'll find all Cynthia's currently available books and patterns on the Patterns and Books page.

It has sold over 20,000 copies.The book includes full color pictures of many of Cynthia's quilts and shows numerous examples of quilts created by other quilters who have used her picture piecing techniques.

Cynthia's pattern line is always expanding. The three Critter Series quilts (Hen 'n Chicks, Barnyard Boss, and The Buck Stops Here) shown earlier are her latest quilt patterns. The 2 latest pattern additions to her popular Small Landscapes Series are shown below.

Season's End, left, features a deer amidst a quite snowy winter scene. This is a 17" x 19" quilt.

The Grist Mill quilt design, right, was inspired by the Glade Creek Grist Mill in Babcock State Park in West Virginia. This is 15 1/2" x 17" quilt.



Fabric Packets
For almost every pattern in her line, Cynthia has put together a Fabric Kit with just the right types and quantities of fabrics to duplicate the sample quilt for the pattern. You'll find these fabric kits are offered right on the same page as each pattern. In addition, England Design offers over 50 Fat Quarter Packets which feature 4 fat quarters each. These fabric packets feature great fabrics for pictorial quilts

Cynthia and the England Design staff enjoy seeing photographs of the quilts that Cynthia's students and customers have created using her picture piecing patterns and books. We invite all Cynthia's students and customers to submit photos of their creations to our Student and Customer Showcase which includes examples of quilts made using either England Design patterns or using techniques learned from Cynthia's workshops or Picture Piecing book.
