Marsha describes her experience designing this wonderful longhorn quilt she made for her son: "I have enjoyed making several of your quilt kits and attended your class at Sew Contempo on creating new designs last year.
My son liked the trout swimming after the hook and mentioned what he really would like is a mosaic of a longhorn (yes, he went to UT). My first reaction was "No way!" but took what you had taught and searched for a photo of a longhorn. I found one with some freckles on its head , clipped the head from the photo and blew it up to a workable size.
I traced the shape, colors and shadows onto graph paper which I expanded onto several sheets of freezer paper by mapping the grid from 1/4" on the graph paper to 2" grid on the freezer paper. I laid out another group of freezer paper to map the picture pieces using the technique you taught. Once I had the map laid out, I laid out smaller pieces of freezer paper to trace each block, marked the order to sew and color to use, copied these smaller sections to use as a guide next to the sewing machine and constructed the quilt. I love this technique, especially with batik fabrics. Each section is something to look forward to how it will turn out! I will be giving the quilt to my son for his birthday next month. Thanks for creating this technique and sharing it with all of us! " |
