Susan created this lovely quilt depicting her childhood home. She wrote to Cynthia saying, "Last year I sent you a photo of a quilt I did from one of your patterns. I thought you might me interested in seeing my first attempt at drafting a pattern following your instructions from your book. Remember, this is my first attempt so don't expect miracles! I had fun doing it and will do more." She shared some of her steps for developing the quilt, along with picture for each step. |

"Photo from June 1972 of the house I grew up in. The photo has seen better days - ink is splotched and faded in places."

"I cropped the photo and enlarged it before tracing." |
| |
|
|
"I traced the photo for the major elements and then had it enlarged by 300%." |
| |
|
|
"From the enlargement, I sectioned and chose fabrics."

The final quilt is shown at the top of the page, but here is a slightly bigger version of that image, without the borders. |

Here is a more detailed view of the flag detail.

| Susan says "They are hard to see in the photo but there are Swarovski crystals in the stars of the flag, in the rosebush, and in the trees." |
